In its July 2026 gear pages, Fly Fishing & Fly Tying puts the Grubs Shoreline 4.0 (£78.95) to the test on the bank — and rates the 785g ankle boots a comfortable, genuinely waterproof alternative to wellingtons and waders.

Fly Fishing & Fly Tying has reviewed the Grubs Shoreline 4.0 in its July 2026 issue, under the heading "Comfortable welly alternatives" — and the angling title rates the ankle boots a properly waterproof, comfortable companion for a day on the water.

The magazine describes the Shoreline as "a cross between a Chelsea boot and a welly": part of the Superlite range, in Black Charcoal (other colours available), weighing just 785g per boot.

"As far as I can see these are utterly waterproof up to the gusset on the sides of the boots."

On the fit, the reviewer's experience echoes the advice to size up if you wear thick socks, and notes that the moulded, neoprene-lined construction makes the boots "fairly warm and comfortable" once on, with a thick foam-padded insole and "decent grip from the cleated sole".

"Get beyond the pulling and grunting and Shoreline boots are obviously handy around water, more comfortable than typical wellingtons (or waders…). Matched with a good bib-and-brace or waterproof over-trousers, Shoreline boots can make for a comfortable and dry fishing day."

Honest about the niggles, too: getting in takes "a little grunting and wriggling", and the reviewer would welcome a longer heel loop or a shoe horn. The trade-off — light, low-bulk, genuinely waterproof boots you can keep in the car and pull on at the bank — clearly lands.
